Ask The Professor
Q: What’s the point of having a counter on my site? If the visitor total is low, it just makes the page look bad to my surfers!
A:
I agree that the kind of counter which posts a total number of visits to the page on the page is a detriment to a budding adult site. Those work best on sites that have a lot of traffic. What’s more important when it comes to site counters is not what the surfer sees but what you see when you check the traffic statistics an adult counter service provides.
Usually when you sign up for an adult counter service, you’re given a special HTML tag to post on your page. That code tracks the activity on your site. Adult counters can provide you with statistics on unique visits, browser usage, regional visitation and what keywords were used to find your page. In fact, most adult counter services don’t show up to the viewer as a numbered accounting of your site’s attendance. Most adult counters are animated banners or buttons with enticing images and text that advertise the paysite of your counter service provider. The counters are free because the provider makes money off their link on your page(s).
If you’re a clever programmer, you can write your own site tracking code and embed it on your pages and you don’t even need to link it to a visible graphic image. Most adult webmasters use the free counter services. Look in our Cozy Listings for adult-friendly counter services.
