In the rush and hurry world of the Internet an adult webmaster has better things to do with their time than wait two for a content CD to arrive in the mail.

Fortunately, a clever young man saw the need of webmasters and did something about it. In 1998, the adult Internet's first fully downloadable content provider was born with the launching of ZIPContent.

Before ZIPContent came along, webmasters had to wait long periods of time to obtain their content from the meandering postal service. Even if they wanted to download straight from the provider, the files were so huge, they were usually bumped off their ISP connections before the downloads were completed. ZIPContent used a file format known as a ZIP file that takes images and compresses to make them smaller. Not only did this make obtaining content easier for webmasters; it also helped content providers because immediacy encouraged more sales.

What you get when you pay for downloadable content is pretty much the same as what you get when you buy content on CD. You get the images, videos or whatever package you've paid for, plus you get the proper licensing and proof of the legality of your models. Besides the opportunity to get your content almost instantaneously, there are other advantages to downloading your content. There is nothing more disappointing than waiting anxiously for snail mail containing your content to arrive and find out your CD has been damaged, or you've gotten the wrong set. When you download, you know exactly what you're getting and if you don't care for it, you automatically know. CD providers allow only a 30-day grace period for you to make a request of a return for your money. The immediacy of downloadable content is also a competitive advantage because you can buy image sets the moment they come out, which can give you and edge over other webmasters.

Downloadable content has its disadvantages. Because of viruses and worms that continue to plague Internet users and because of bad software, your computer can suddenly be unusable. If you have to take it in for repairs, you face the risk of some do-gooder finding the dirty pictures on your computer. You also face the risk of losing your content forever because of a computer problem. You can easily remedy these problems by investing in a CD writeable drive, then you can put your downloads onto disk. Not only will this keep undesirable images off your computer; it will also be a back-up source in case your machine crashes.
