Lesson #16
Should You Produce Your Own Content?
Written By Titmowse
Any adult webmaster will tell you, content is exceedingly affordable. A person can buy a fully licensed set of 25 or so images for less than twenty dollars. Thanks to ZIPContent – who originally put content files into zip format using an instant buy-download-licensing system - webmasters can download their purchases and licenses straight to their computers. Shopping for, purchasing and implementing content on your adult site is easier and gets easier with each passing day.
Buying and using adult content is a breeze but you may want something different. You may want content that isn’t available to any adult webmaster with a credit card. You might have a specific vision of imagery that’s not been thought of or produced before. You want to make your own adult content.
Obsolescence comes naturally in adult entertainment. Models age. Trends come and go and come around again. Technology changes. All the while the audiences demand more and that will never stop. Adult webmasters will always want new content because the surfers will always want new content. The sexual kinks and criteria of surfers are legion therefore it’s likely that any adult content you create can find an audience. If you’ve been toying around with idea of making your own adult content there are roadblocks along the way but a lack of market isn’t one of them. You would have to be crappy to make unusable adult content.
The fact is, the Internet browser can render a very nice photographic image but high resolution images are bigger files than compressed, smaller ones are. Bigger files mean more bandwidth use and more download time. The adult Internet thrives on speed, ease of use and delivery. A ridiculously expensive digital camera doesn’t make much difference, especially to the start-up content producer. You’re going to have to compress your imagery to make it web friendly in the first place and compression always devalues image quality.
Talent and photographic skill are important but only in some adult Internet markets. The amateur niche is very large on the adult net and glamour photography doesn’t sell very well within it. Amateur lovers like their pictures grainy and like they’re seen through the peephole. Those who sell for adult sponsors with free sites and TGP galleries use lesser quality images and clips as a tease for commissioned product. The elaborate
sets, costumers, high priced lighting and makeup artists of the print/film world are not as valued in online porn. On the web, our porn must be clear and must not crash our browsers. Images must be clear but artistic details will be lost on the average smut surfer. Viewers wants to see what they want to see and they want to see it as quickly as possible.
You don’t have to have to have buckets of money to buy equipment and you don’t have to be Herb Ritts to make decent adult Internet content. What you do need is software, a decent digital camera, legal aged models and a place to shoot. You’ll also need to have an understanding of what you’re getting yourself into when you create adult content for the web.
When you create adult content, you take on responsibility as well as culpability. Ultimately if anyone is going to jail for illegal content, it will be the creator. Know the laws of the city where you live as well as the laws regarding obscene content all over the world. Your audience on the net crosses borders and bodies of water. The age of contractual consent is younger in Russia than it is in America. Bestiality is not a crime in some of the United Sates but not in all of them. Even though you know that your potential model is over 18, you still have to see and document his/her ID as a matter of law. If you create content you are the accountable party which means you should not take the task lightly.
Creating adult content is never a bad idea but it is a serious one. Just the same, self-production is a way to insure your web imagery is unique. Creating content and selling it is a way to make money. Many the paysite was begun with just one model, a crappy webcam and some telephony software. You could spend the big bucks and hire the best professionals but until you know what you’re doing you’re just wasting your time.
Cozy Academy will post future lessons on content self-production. Until then, look around the Content section in our Library area. You’ll be surprised at how much affordable, good adult content is available to you right now.
