How To Network - Part #2
Written By Titmowse
More things to keep in mind when networking at adult webmaster events.
Keep in mind that in the seminars and on the showroom floor business is done and shop is talked about. Your hero paysite owner or dream model is at work and you should respect their time. These environments are where you should be civil and sober. Don’t forget that the bigger shows have hired security. Ask questions of your speakers when the time is appropriate. Don’t try and get dates with the porn stars. Grab some freebies and have some fun.
The party environment is where you can let your hair down. This is the place for jolly comments and various inebriations. That being said, remember that those sponsors and hosts might not be in a business mood. These folks spend a lot on money to provide you with a party and you should respect that. Absolutely make sure that you find out well before you go where the parties are and sign up to attend the ones that require you to do so. Look into whether or not the party is totally free or if you might have to pay a cover charge or by your own drinks. By all means enjoy yourself. Take note that if you get stinking drunk it’s possible that days later a picture of you -passed out- with some guy’s cock in your mouth might show up on the message boards.
It’s a delicate balance between selling you and becoming a pest. You probably aren’t renting booth space or sponsoring a party so you’re basically in someone else’s house. Business cards and handouts are acceptable but setting up a stand and setting up shop is not. The best rule to remember is to describe what you do and then see if your listener wants to hear more. Sometimes you have nothing to sell but your personality so back that up with a business card. Actual financial transactions and deals are a serious matter and would probably go well with a nice dinner or a few drinks bought by you. Try to see if your party of interest has some free time for you. Better yet, ask before the show or event. Take enough money to pay for the tab and a generous tip.
Go the parties. Hit the showroom and seminars. Don’t just hole up in your room or do one thing. Pack in as much as you can. You can sleep when you get back home. Even if you can only stay overnight, hit a party and a seminar and the showroom. Don’t spend your rent money but at least make sure you spread yourself around sufficiently. More importantly go. Show up. Be there.
Adult conventions, events and gatherings aren’t voodoo magic but they are worth it.
