Convention Whiz
Lesson #14
Convention Overload
Written By Titmowse
Just a few years ago, there was no adult Internet. Those who took the chance and started up adult websites were but a handful of forward-thinkers. When there were enough adult Internet entrepreneurs to attract a crowd, they tried to hold their conventions at mainstream venues like the famous Comdex. When the mainstreamers kicked them out, adult techies started their own convention named AdultDex.
When AdultDex proved to be more about print and film porn, adult techies started conventions like Internext and Cybernet Expo. In a few short years, we’ve come to a point where there’s a porn convention or gathering held practically weekly.
Chances are, no matter where you live in the world; there will be an adult Internet meeting near you.
Your job is to decide which ones you do attend and which ones you don’t. Do you just hit the big shows? Or will you prefer to attend a bunch of little gatherings? You have to figure out what venues will serve your best interests. You have to consider your available funds and whether or not you can afford to travel.
You have to decide why, how and where.
Why go to an adult Internet convention or gathering? Well, first of all, you don’t have to go. Nobody is forcing you. There are plenty of adult webmasters moguls included- who never attend public functions. If you never go to an adult Internet get-together, you’ll still be a pimp. But if you do go, you’ll be a pimp with a face.
The Internet is a pretty anonymous place and there’s no proof you’re for real in cyberspace. Yet in a physical setting, you meet others, you pass your card around, you shake some hands and you legitimize yourself.
In addition, you meet your peers and your idols at a smut convention. You get to see for yourself who is clever and who is full of crap. You get an opportunity to pick some brains and spend quality time with people who can help you. At the same time, you get to sell yourself to those in your field. When you appear in person, you validate yourself. You show those who matter that you’re serious.
