Legal Industry Primer
Lesson #07
Organizations of Interest
Written By Titmowse
While sex workers fight desperately for legalization and representation in the real world, on the Internet adult professionals are networked, standardized and initiating organizations which represent/protect the entire industry.
Adult webmasters, content providers, hosts and sponsors don’t feel the need to hide the way their real world counterparts do. Adult webmasters don’t come from the shadowy depths of the underworld. They aren’t burdened like the sex shop owner who’s forced to do business in high-crime districts. Online porn purveyors are proud of what they do. They even have the nerve to flaunt their unity in the face of dying convention.
There are a good few organizations, which have been created by adult webmasters for adult webmasters. Since you are an adult webmaster, you’ll want to know what these organizations are and what they can do for you and your cause:
ASACP stands for Adult Sites Against Child Pornography. This organization was begun as a safe means for adult webmasters to report child porn without fear of oppressive scrutiny. Considering
the zealous attitudes about online censorship coming from such governmental entities as the US Justice Department, it’s natural that cyber smut peddlers are hesitant to report porn-related crimes. Add to this dilemma the fact that it’s a crime to even view CP. Instead of risking harassment by the local cops, a webmaster can report that dubious link to ASACP. ASACP works with the FBI and is authorized to scrutinize sites and images in order to determine the presence of CP. This long-lived organization has a membership program for supporters. Many adult websites link to ASACP to show surfers their pages are CP free.
This trade association for the adult entertainment industry fights for our rights on the legal battleground. They take on the big boys who are trying their best to push us around. You'll find FSC at adult webmaster conventions ready to answer your questions. Join their cause and join the fight.
Internet Media Protective Association
Not long ago, several adult websites and webmasters were informed that they were infringing on copyrights for the use of streaming technology. The company who menaced these adult businesses with legal action and monetary compensation has begun the litigation and the IMPA* is the organization formed to fight them. Homegrown Video and others have hired a renowned legal team and are working on a website where memberships can be created and donations can be taken. The IMPA has a far-reaching mission to protect our industry from unfair legal challenges.
Created by porn star-turned-Clinical-Sexologist Sharon Mitchell, this organization was designed to meet the medical needs of adult industry professionals. They perform testing and counseling in a non-judgmental atmosphere. They also can perform certain medical tests by mail.
