Anime & Toons

What is a cartoon? To our ancient ancestors, those line depictions of beasts they scratched on cave walls were mystical incarnations of the real thing. Artistic realism came about much later on the timeline of human evolution. Some say what makes a toon a toon is the outline. Real life objects have no outline. But we now have 3D rendering which emulates realism by obfuscating the grid and filtering over the outline. Are 3D animations too real to be toons? What about Anime? Is there a market for this Asian cartooning?
When it comes to adult content, cartoons fall into pretty much three categories: Anime/Hentai, Toons and 3D. There are subcategories and permutations for these three but the world of toon lovers is vast and we only have one life.
Anime is a western term used for animation/cartoons that come from Japan. The Japanese take their toons very seriously. You can often find respectable businessmen reading Manga on city transit much like their western counterparts would read the financial section of the daily newspaper. Anime takes on many forms from newsprint paneled Manga, to child-oriented Anime to the pornographic Hentai. In adult porn, we mostly deal with Hentai. Hentai is fairly easy to recognize. The characters usually have large eyes with tiny mouths and noses, that and Hentai is pornographic. Hentai lovers are lovers to the extreme. Many idolize particular heroines and will follow their adventures anywhere, anyhow.
The word cartoon comes from cartone or pasteboard. It meant a mock-up. Something incomplete. Cartoons depict reality but aren’t quite finished. Whether digitally created or hand-drawn and scanned, almost all other types of animation are considered toon content. One could almost say that Cartoons are western and Hentai is eastern but that would be inaccurate. Asian artists draw in western style and vice versa. Toons are really any animation that isn’t Anime. Toons can be individual images; storylines mapped out in panels or even full-length flash cartoons. Toons are more malleable when incorporating into an adult website. A page can feature nothing but toons or it can simply carry a nice plugin strip for a member’s area.
The 3D artist overlays textures and bevels on a grid until they are so smooth and dimensional that the resulting image almost leaps from the webpage. In fact 3D rendering has gotten so sophisticated and cost effective that Hollywood has come to depend on it. There’s even the popular fear that 3D characters will replace real-life actors. 3D porn has its fans. 3D actresses don’t complain and 3D actors always have a hard on. 3D porn takes longer to load but it has a lot of ‘gee whiz’ factor.
Toon content providers are more in the spotlight than they were a few years ago. Animation no matter how it’s done is time-intensive work to create. To get started many fool hearted porn pioneers snatched toons off of Usenet or scanned them from their private stashes of printed materials. Even though toon content was/is hard to come by this was/is still theft and you need to make sure you know the content you buy is fully licensed.
