Lesson #17 Acquisition of Search Engine Traffic
    Written By Titmowse

As explained in the previous lesson, search engine traffic is good traffic. Many adult webmasters will talk about amounts of traffic and the importance of numbers. Other wiser adult webmasters will speak about QUALITY of traffic. While high numbers of customers browsing around your site increase your chances of selling, there really are a certain percentage of them who have no interest in paying for anything ever. You as a paysite owner are not in the business of giving away your content. If you do not have an affiliate program, you have to sell your site yourself and that means you also have to pay for the traffic that comes to your page. You can bring surfers who are directly interested in your particular content to your page with less steps from search engine traffic.

According to SearchEngineWatch.com, seven top search boxes -such as Google, Ask Jeeves and Alta Vista- process a collective 300 million searches a day. Yahoo, (who teeters at the top as the most used search engine) lists 405 different search engines and directories. Those are just the major ones. There are also niche type SE's too numerous to count. So one could multiply that 300 million from the aforementioned seven a few times and get an idea of this massive traffic source. Search engine traffic and it's value has been explained in Lesson 16 of this Cozy Academy Class. You who understand it's importance to your paysite want to know how to get it.

    Meta Tags and Keywords

Aside from the content on your paysite, there are so many other construction considerations you need to get your site optimized for the web. Among them are browser compatibility, workable scripts, load time and Meta Tags.

Meta Tags are special HTML codes that lie in the HEAD tag of your paysite. A surfer cannot see the keywords and search terms contained in your Meta Tags but search engine robot software can. At this time, most search boxes that aren't indexed by humans use a robot program that reads the actual text and codes on a web site. The Meta Tags are where you add those much talked about keywords you've read about. Before for you submit a site to a search engine, make sure your Meta Tags are up to speed. To learn more about Meta Tags, visit the Traffic Lounge hosted by none other than traffic expert Cyndalie.

    Submit Submit Submit

Whether you use submission software, pay a guru to submit for you or do it engine by engine by hand, search engines and directories are more likely to list you better and faster if you actually submit your page to them. Some adult webmasters submit the address of their site to every possible search engine or directory they possibly can. Others concentrate on achieving higher placement of relative keyword searches on just the most popular few engines and directories.

To submit a site to a search engine or directory means to fill in a web form of some sort with the address of your site, a little contact information, and sometimes a site description. When you're done, a click of a submit button will send that info off to the robot or reviewer of that engine/directory. The robot or reviewer will examine your page and will either reject it or list it in order of varied relevance, depending on your keywords and other sites in the same group.

    Get Linked

Another way search engines will find your paysite is from links to you on other pages. In other words, the more times a link to the URL of your web appears on other web pages, the more that search engine robots will push you up towards the top of keyword search results. You need to get links to your paysite on as many other's pages as you can, especially when those other's pages have good SE traffic of their own.

What sites are these? There are adult Top Lists you can request to be added to. If you can find other webmasters who are willing to post your URL (usually in an agreed trade of links) on their free or similar sites, you can rise up the SE ladder. You can build your own small, free sites that you can add prominent links to your paysite on. Make sure to market these smaller sites as aggressively as you would your paysite. The point being is to get as many pages as possible to add your paysite link to their web. That way you obtain what search engines call LINK POPULARITY, which moves you up on a search result from and engine.

There are quite a few other ways to obtain search engine and directory traffic, but these above three are absolutely imperative to do. Whether you buy software or pay an SE specialist, as a paysite owner you don't really want to leave search engine optimization up to trial and error. If you can't afford to hire someone or buy search engine optimization software, you will be at the mercy of luck and your own search engine/directory skills.

We at Cozy Academy recommend you read Cyndalie's Traffic Lounge classroom. We also recommend you explore our Library area for SE software and Traffic Optimization services.
