Paysite Success
Lesson #34
Professional Text Copy
Written By Titmowse
LOSE and LOOSE. Two different words with two different meanings and pronunciations.
As brilliant as they may be, most adult webmasters are notoriously bad spellers. On top of that, many of them are incapable of composing a coherent sentence. One of the most common mistakes when writing text is the above lose/loose example.
Granted, the adult Internet is based on images. When it comes to what counts, it’s the pictures and videos that we cherish the most. All the clever prose in the world won’t save a site with shitty content.
Yet, before you can turn a surfer into a paying member, you have to lure them with a tour. You have to use effective text in your tour copy. You need to show potential members that your paysite is a legitimate, professional service. Show all the images you want on your tour but customers need details before they buy and it’s the text that provides those details. If that text is sloppy, unclear and full of typos, how can your tour instill buyer confidence?
In many ways, your paysite tour is the most important portion of your adult web business. After all, if they don’t like the tour, they won’t buy the membership. A paysite tour has to be quick loading, eye catching and it has to make sense. A jumbled mess of poor grammar and slap-dash graphics will leave the viewer with a bad impression of your site. Who wants to give their money to someone that doesn’t know the difference between the words lose and loose? If your tour text is badly worded then you won’t sell memberships.
Proper copy should be easy to read and easy to understand. You don’t need to write a bunch of three-dollar college words. You also don’t want to write copy that reads as if were written by a five-year-old. Good tour copy describes the product and describes the benefits of membership. Good tour copy incorporates effective descriptors and buzzwords. Good tour copy reads easy and sells hard.
Before you let your tour text LOOSE on the information highway, take the time to determine whether your words generate sales or whether those words LOSE your readers:
To proofread means to check and double-check text for typos and grammatical errors. Are all the words spelled correctly? Are the commas and periods in the right places? Are your sentences clear and crisp, or do your words run on in one long passage? Spell checkers are helpful but they are hardly perfect. You have to do your own proofreading.
Of course your tour copy makes sense to you. After all you wrote it. The question you have to ask yourself is, will the words make sense to your surfers? Try to imagine that you’re the surfer. Try to read your text as if you’ve never read it before. Read it out loud without the emotion and inflection. Will the average porn lover understand your copy?
Tour copy is important but that doesn’t mean you need a half-page of text in order to sell memberships. Make sure your copy is concise. You don’t need a lot of words to make your point; you simply need the right words.
If you don’t have the gift, then it’s time to consult the gifted. There are several providers who will write your tour copy for you as long as you pay them money. These text services know how to compose copy that’s professional and saleable. They know porn and they know marketing. Some of these providers are:
