Macro TGP
Lesson #15
Should You Build a TGP?
Written By Titmowse
If (as a TGP gallery builder/submitter) you've felt a touch of envy for the life of a TGP site owner, you're not alone. A successful Thumbnail Gallery Post gets lots of traffic which if marketed right can produce great income. A thumbnail Gallery Post is a whole website. There are hundreds, perhaps thousands of adult webmasters who never create whole sites. They create only galleries. Gallery after gallery after gallery. After reading all the inane TGP terms of service, after configuring galleries ad infinitum to fit specifications for text links, banner links, reciprocal buttons and pic number, that gallery webmaster begins to naturally understand how a TGP works and what it takes to run one masterfully.
Conceiving of and bringing a Thumbnail Gallery Post Site to the web is a tried and true adult Internet business model. The progenitors of the TGP are today's big players. Their popularity and prominence led to emulators by the hundreds. You could say a new TGP is born every day and you could also say that most TGP site operators were former gallery builders. If you want to join the party, here are some considerations you might want to ponder.
Sure, the TGP site owner uses other webmaster's hard work as the core of their content offering. Just the same, there is still as much work involved in owning, operating and being responsible for a TGP as any other adult web enterprise.
Quantity and quality are key to the TGP owner so most of them still review, categorize and post all the galleries applied to their page. On top of that, they still have to track visitors, sell sponsor's products, reply to webmasters and bookmarker's emails and somewhere find time to market their TGP.
Are you prepared to involve yourself on a level that will require even more of you than when you were just a simple gallery builder? Are you ready for the bitching and moaning about your rules on the webmaster boards? Are you in a frame of mind to handle all the email viruses sent by rejected submitters? Can you face the images you encounter from dubious jerks that think they can get way with slipping an auto-loading dialer into the JavaScript of that pee gallery? Are you willing to follow up on submitted galleries to make sure they didn't change the page to a redirect script to some disgusting lolita site? What about the copycats who take the list you work so hard to compile? Will you pursue them as they steal your work?
The TGP site owner can't exist in the shadows like that gallery builder can. The TGP site owner needs to be known. They have to operate in the light of scrutiny. Before you even consider the expense, the software, the hosting and the sponsors you choose, you must ruminate on the repercussions of taking the big leap from page maker to site owner.
A TGP can be massive, full of links upon links to daily galleries, archived galleries and galleries in all sorts of categories. You want a decent site management software program to handle the updates. You want a sturdy host for your TGP, because even though the TGP itself may not fill a lot of space host-wise, it will (hopefully) use tons of transfer because of its incredible amount of traffic. You will definitely want either a good script or software to handle the submission side of your TGP.
The more galleries you feature on your TGP, the more likely you are to get bookmarkers and repeat traffic. Therefore, you'll want to receive as many gallery submissions as you can. The review process is much easier for the TGP owner when the submissions can be sent through a form with fields that categorize the gallery and detail it's title and the email address of the webmaster. An email auto-responder program is a nice touch that you've probably noticed when submitting to TGPs. You most of all need a good name for your new TGP and frankly, all the good domain names with the letters "TGP" in them are likely already taken.
Advance knowledge of search engine and directory operations is priority knowledge for the TGP owner as their staunch competitors already have the SE advantage. To make it as a TGP site operator today, you have to work three times as hard as your predecessors do and still you face an uphill climb if you want to reach the top.
Do You Want to Build Galleries?
If you have created and refined your zillionth gallery and you've decided you can't take it anymore, then maybe TGP ownership isn't for you. TGP owners still make galleries as do free site owners, paysite owners and website gurus. Everybody makes galleries. It's the adult Internet's most sure-fire traffic/marketing tool. TGP owners need to eat and most of them pepper their Thumbnail Gallery Posts with galleries they built themselves, flying the banners of their personal sponsors or paysites. They submit galleries to other TGPs just like you and face rejection just as you do.
If you want to get away from the mundane tedium of gallery creation and the constant search for thumbnail content, don't be a TGP site owner. Everyone in the TGP game is a gallery builder ultimately.
As a gallery builder, you will become knowledgeable about the workings of the TGP site through osmosis. Anyone who deals with a certain activity absorbs understanding of it with time. Still, as we at Cozy Academy have tried to stress to you our students, test the waters before you dive in. This adult Internet is an industry in flux. The rules are being made up as we go along. Any new undertaking is most definitely going to introduce to you dilemmas and predicaments you never knew could happen. Take that chance, but take it slow.
