Getting Traffic for Free - Part #1
Written By Cyndalie
Ok, so maybe not everyone is a search engine marketing expert. Not only does it take time and experimentation to learn, who wants to wait 6-12 weeks for indexing schedules to even pick up your site to see if it will rank? Given search engines are an integral part of any marketing plan, to get your site off the ground there are numerous places that adult webmasters can get traffic to their sites for free. Here are two ways beyond the TGP and Picture Post that are available to help you get more traffic to your adult site today.
In 2001 we saw the first "hot or not" type of sites hit the Internet with a bang. The start of peer to peer picture exchanges on a web site, adult webmasters quickly saw the traffic potential these software/scripted based interactive sites could draw.
Many of these sites that branched off the "hot or not" name were quickly stubbed out when the original "hotornot.com" (8 Days, Inc) trademarked the term and hired attorneys to shut down these branch off sites and in some cases, even force acquisition of their domain name.
Not to be discouraged, many picture rating sites were developed exclusively for adult webmasters to post XXX images where surfers can "vote" or "rate" each picture for free. In addition, each picture is linked to the site of origin, allowing surfers to view free porn pics and webmaster to post content for free traffic. These sites help webmasters see what content drives click thrus as well as to see what surfers think of their amateur or exclusively shot, or purchased content. These sites are not as bandwidth intensive as TGP's, nor as time consuming as TGP's or pic posts.
Today, picture rating portals have become even more popular with the reality TV show "Are You Hot?". Some examples of picture rating portals that allow you to post pics for free hits are http://RateXPics.com owned by AdultChamber.com, http://www.picturemehot.com , http://www.ratemyrack.com, http://www.ratemyboobies.com, and more can be found when you search likenesses in Google. I will try to better compile a list of high traffic picture portals as the only one I have much experience with is RateXPics.com which has a beautiful back end with image stats and user comments.
Adult Search Engines
It must be done! Submitting to adult search engines can help you get some immediate traffic to your site to get things off the ground. When submitting to adult search engines remember that most do not work like mainstream engines. They are basically directories you can search, so like Yahoo, keyword rankings are based on whether the keywords you want to rank for appear in your title and description that you submit. Also take note of engines the default to alphabetical listings. If this is the case, than try to change your title to something that will appear on the first page (Ex. Original title: Sexy Amateurs, Modified title: Amateurs, Sexy Amateurs).
The drawback of most adult search engines is that many require a prominently placed reciprocal link. Many webmasters feel they are submitting to get more traffic, not to create more places for their visitors to wander off to. But there are happy mediums. If you do not have a links page, create one, most engines will be happy with a recip link from your links page. Next try to use text links whenever possible, especially for home page placed links. Make them appear almost like footer textlinks so it is less invasive to the design of your page. Lastly make sure all links open in a new window, or in a frame set where the visitor can easily return to your site.
Some tips for finding high traffic yielding sites are to search using Alexa.com to find the most popular adult search engines in terms of traffic ranking. Another is to check your Google Toolbar when visiting an engine's website to make sure their Page Rank is equal or higher than your own. Finally, to make it easy on yourself use the following adult search engine link lists to submit:
I also advise searching Google or other engines for niche directories related to the content of your site (Ex. Fetish, amateur, swingers, etc).
Adult search engines cannot only just yield you free traffic. By return linking it can help boost your own sites popularity and relevance. And lastly, remember to include those keywords you want your site to rank for in the title and description you submit, and always follow the rules of each engine or it is simply time wasted on both yours and the search engine webmaster's part.
Until next time Happy Promoting! There's a world of marketing beyond the search engines that can help you drive more traffic to your site – get started today!
