Lesson #19 Archives vs. Deleted Pages
    Written By Titmowse

You might turn out to be one of those adult webmasters who makes their living creating small AVS pages or galleries for TGP submission. You could end up building and forgetting hundreds of tiny little adult web pages. A good many in this profession make decent money from throw-away pages.

Chances are you’ll have at least one adult site you’ll nurture, update and market. You’ll probably have to since so many adult listing resources require a main URL to refer to in order for you to promote your business. An adult site that is designed to last needs constant maintenance. You’ll want to put a fresh face on your design and content every once in a while. You’ll weed out unproductive images and promotions and you will want to polish proven favorites. You’ll add new ideas and designs to your web and somehow you’ll have to do all of this without compromising your bandwidth limitations.

When you get to that point where it’s time to tidy and freshen up your adult site, what will you do with those old images and HTML documents? Do you delete them off your server or will you archive them?

Here’s arguments for both solutions:

    Archive

If you’ve visited a TGP, you’ll see that many of them take older galleries and move them to an archive section. They do so because they know that the archives keep surfers on their domain longer. After a TGP visitor has looked at all the galleries featured on the main page, archived galleries offer them more porn to look at. It’s easy for a TGP designer to archive galleries because those galleries are just links. The images and pages come from the servers of the TGP’s submitting webmasters. The TGP webmaster has only to link the older galleries from their front page and bingo, they’ve got archives.

When you’re considering whether or not to archive old images, video clips and other adult content ask yourself will archiving enhance the entertainment value of your page? Are your surfers the kind who are more likely to spend money, the longer they hang around your web? Is your content the kind of content that should be archived?

TGPs archive. So do online magazines. Amateur models who host webpages archive their older image sets and screen shots from webcam sessions. Adult resource and news sites archive older articles and reports. If your adult site has archive-worthy content, then it would be wise to put it in an easy-to-find section of your web.

    Delete

There are many reasons to delete older documents and images from your site’s server, the main one being bandwidth. The more that is stored on the server, the more it will cost to store it. The more that your surfer’s can download, the more your transfer costs will be. If your site is on a free host, you are usually bound by a storage limit of 20 to 100 megs.

You may also find you sell better with quick and easy pages that float effective ad banners or text links. You want to get your visitors to buy something before they lose their hard-on. A site filled with a lot of content might defeat your purpose, especially if your income depends on sponsor sales.

For whatever reasons, when you update your adult site, you’ll have documents and images that don’t need to be in your directory, taking up storage space. Save these files to your machine and then delete them from your server.

Adult websites should be fresh. Adult content should be used in a manner that promotes income. Whether you delete unnecessary files or archive them, make sure you give your surfers content that is exciting, enticing and monetarily productive.
