Cigarettes: some facts. Cigarette smoking is more addictive than cocaine, it kills half the users and cause environmental hazards. Every day, up to 100 000 young people around the world become addicted to tobacco. Smoking is the single biggest killer in all of Europe, 137 people die every hour. Each pack of cigarettes sold in the US costs the nation 7.18$ in medical care costs and loss of productivity. The risks are too high.

The first major report on smoking and health was published in 1964 by the Surgeon General. It showed a link between cigarette smoking and cancer. In 1965, Congress requires warnings on cigarette packaging. The first nicotine patch was approved by the FDA in 1991, to help smokers quit. In 1996, several lawsuits emerged agains't the tobacco giants. They were forced to start paying the state millions of dollars per year, over a long period of time (25 years).

The citrus soda 7-Up, was created in 1929; “7” was selected because the original containers were 7 ounces and “Up” indicated the direction of the bubbles!

In a recent study conducted in a high school, researchers have discovered that oral sex is on the rise amongst 12 to 14 year olds in the US and most believe that it is not in fact a sexual practice: “It's no big deal, everyone does it!” said one candidate. Parents keep your eyes and ears open.

Water helps to flush toxins out of the body. Water is involved in every metabolic function in our bodies and makes up 75% of the body's muscle. It also distributes nutrients properly throughout your body, promotes healthy skin and aids in digestion. Drink cold water: the body burns 100 more calories per liter when a person drinks cold water. The cooler the better! Drink up!!

One great trick for candle lovers. To prevent tall flames and smoking, trim wicks to a quarter of an inch before every use, suggests the National Candle Association. Discard candles when half an inch of wax remains, that way, you'll avoid burning the metal disk at the bottom of the candle. Make sure that you check for lead containing wicks before purchasing candles. You can check for lead by rubbing a piece of white paper across the top of an unburned wick. A light gray mark indicates lead. It's important to do this little test to avoid lead poisoning.

If you are like the majority of the population, you most probably shed some tears when cutting some onions. One way to prevent crying, is to cut the onion under a running tap of cold water. Or, you could also place the onion in the freezer for 10 minutes before preparing it. No more tears.
