How Much Money?
Written By Titmowse
When you begin to work for a person or company in the physical world you agree to a certain wage or salary for your services. Most are guaranteed a set amount of money with which they will budget their personal expenses. When you become an adult webmaster you enter a field where what you earn is up to you.
Some get rich. Some get poor. Some do okay. One runs their own paysite and makes a better-than-average income. Another builds AVS pages and lakes a better-than-average income. One will begin seeing great heaps of green within three months of starting out. Someone else toils for two years before they “get it”. A few employ a full staff, send huge payouts to hundreds of affiliates, dispatch scores of money to vendors and pay big-ass taxes. However it’s done, it’s done through hard work and determination. Any adult webmaster who is making money on a regular basis is doing something right.
That’s why when we see the question: ”How much money do you make?” asked on a message board or chat, we tend to be a little hostile.
Sure, there’s that whole bling bling thing. Internet porniacs love to brag. There’s a lot of them out there doing pretty darned well. Many of them have freed themselves of the bonds of nine-to-five slavery. They took a chance on something, worked it like a pro and now they’re reaping the benefits. They’ve succeeded in a medium non-adult types still can’t figure out. They’ve mastered the Internet and they’ve right to be proud.
Naturally, you’re anxious. You want to do some research before you delve too deep in this business. You’re aware of the social repercussions associated with the porn industry. Maybe you’ve seen one or ten of the media-hyped pieces about the college geek who is now a porn mogul, or the mom and pop who made millions from their at-home Internet smut site. You’ve also seen the horror reports about smarmy goons from the under the rocks of our industry. You want to know what you can expect. You want to know if you can make a good living.
There is absolutely no way to tell you how much money you can expect to earn as an adult webmaster. All that can be said is that sex sells well on the Internet. All that can be truthfully stated is that online porn is open to any adult operator. You don’t need to lease a building or buy product. You don’t have to find investors or take out bank loans to get started. All you have to do is learn all you can and work your ass off. If you stick with it you will at least make enough to supplement your present income. If you try hard enough you will find a niche or area where you excel. If you do honest business in a consistent manner others will take notice and want to work with you. Will you make millions of dollars? You could, but you better be brilliant and willing to make the sacrifices.
Can you move beyond your income bracket? Possibly. You can at least enhance your present standard of living. You can support yourself and your family on a productive adult webmaster’s earnings. Quite a few adult porn peddlers are rich but most are quite happy to simply earn their keep through Internet smut. There are no set highs or lows. You get back what you put in, and sometimes you don’t.
So when adult webmasters are asked the question “How much money do you make?” we’re not always kind in our responses. We all make what we make. Whatever we make we’ve earned every damned penny. Besides, it’s rude to ask strangers about their income. You don’t do that in real life. An adult webmaster community is not your personal polling ground. We’re professionals, doing business in a revolutionary medium. We meet online because we can and because it works. Some are there to brag but most are there to be a part of something wonderful. We love what we do and that should be enough.
If you feel the urge to ask your future peers about their money, resist it. You won’t get a straight answer anyway. You have a right to know what you’re getting into but nobody can give you any guarantees.
