    Protecting Your Innovative Ideas!
      Written By Titmowse

I have a personal theory that approximately twenty people on this planet have the same brilliant idea at the same time. At exactly the same given moment -because of various sets of circumstances and occurrences of fate- twenty individual citizens of this world come up with precisely the same concept simultaneously. My theory continues in that ten of them forget the idea the moment it occurs to them. Five or so consider the possibilities and disregard it as silly. Three or four will believe their idea to be amazing but are slackers and do nothing but talk about their idea at cocktail parties. Then there is that one or two who see the whole vision of their revelation and put the idea into motion. They act upon their unique notion and promote it and push it until it's heard by positive ears.

My theory about ideas continues. The thing about ideas is that new ones come along every day. That idea-having blabbermouth at the cocktail party may just inspire the productive entrepreneur listening to him blather on. When an idea catches on, no matter how hard the creator tries to protect it from duplication, others will do everything they can to take it, better it, reconfigure it and present it as their own. From fake designer handbags to software clones, for each of the twenty people who had the original idea, there are twenty x twenty others who try to steal it.

Do you have a good idea? Do you believe in it? Do you have a sincere faith that your idea is the answer to what porn surfers have been looking for since the Internet was conceived? Is your idea the be all, end all of all that is online smut? Take a word of advice. Keep it to yourself.

Now, I don't mean don't believe in your ideas. I don't mean don't follow your dreams. What I mean is be very careful who you tell them to. Recently, a fellow that worked for company A decided he wanted to work for company B. The fellow began to exchange emails with a rep from company B. Eventually the rep decided to hire the fellow. In their emails, the rep told the fellow not to turn in his notice with company A until he had gotten collected as much information about company A he could. The fellow agreed to hoard trade secrets for his new impending job at company B. The thing was, this exchange of emails was enough to get both men charged with corporate espionage and jail time was served. Somebody couldn't keep their mouth shut and they left an electronic trail.

Well, maybe you won't come across corporate espionage as an adult webmaster, but keeping your ideas to yourself is a good idea. So many times I see some poor schnook come into an adult webmaster message board and proceed to lay out they entire works of their fabulous idea and ask for opinions on it's viability. While they spend the next few weeks posting back and forth trying to defend their idea to the jaded masses, somebody else takes their idea and runs with it. Or have you ever noticed that when webmasters finally find a sponsor that converts well and pays on time, they spend hours of their time spamming them on the adult Internet? Now, I know that sharing good ideas makes for more good ideas but it often seems a sponsor gets hot, gets overexposed and then gets dumped by all the affiliates.

If you have the next big idea, do yourself a favor. Wait until you have it built, hosted, copyrighted and fully launch-ready before you go asking for opinions on it's feasibility. More than once someone in the adult Internet has come up with a fabulous concept and while they were busy blathering away to their friends on ICQ about it, somebody else snatches it and presents it first.

See it all goes back to my original theory. I believe that folks in the adult Internet have greater vision than those in the non-adult world. I think that twenty adult webmasters have a great idea pop into their heads simultaneously. The trick for the one who beats the others to the punch is an open mind, a clear vision, hard work and a closed mouth.
