For Love or Just Money?
Written By Titmowse
I had a dream about a wonderful land where riches fell upon those who
were worthy because of their cleverness. A rosy world that rewarded good
ideas with vast riches and opportunity came to those who were best
suited to the task. Everyone was aware of each other's talents and
capabilities and professions were passed out like desserts on a tray.
Then I woke up.
I used to work for these two second-generation rich dudes who opened a
supper club. At first, they tried to run the place themselves and soon
realized they knew nothing about running a supper club. They hired a
decent manager and an excellent booking agent. It took a while but
eventually, they had a sweet little nightspot on their hands.
The thing was, the more these guys got involved in the night club
business, the more they realized how hard it was to keep it a profitable
enterprise.
I was shocked when decided to close the club. I remember talking to one
of them on closing night. He told me all he really wanted to do was race
cars. He had invested in the club because he thought it would be a nice
hands-off moneymaker where he could bring his friends and girlfriends
after a day at the racetrack.
Later that night, I sat there and watched the legendary chanteuse spin
her musical magic on the stage. I looked at the packed tables and the
enthralled gazes of the clientele as they succumbed to her bewitching
talents. I wanted to cry. The club had finally passed through the fires
of trial and error and had come out the other side a success and those
tow bastards were shutting it down because it was too much work. They
didn't love the night club business. They just wanted a place they could
bring their girlfriends and always get the best table.
Don't misunderstand me, I like money. I like being successful at what I
do. I too look towards the day where I can just do my thing and the
money just flows. I was in the restaurant and nightclub business for a
long time. I saw lots of owners come and go. I've heard so many fools
exclaim how this type of business would be such a no-brainer, such a
sure shot. I am not such a fool. For all I know how to make a club run
and how to keep it running, I would never own one myself because I do
not love the process. I know that to make an entertainment venue run
smooth requires 24/7 attention and I don't love the business enough to
make that kind of sacrifice.
I love computers. I love making webpages. I love sex and I love writing
more than I love all the above. I love figuring out how to add a
Javascript mail form to my newsletter site. I love watching the trends
in advertising porn. I love the freshness of the technology. I love the
work.
The work is a detail you had better consider if you really want to make
it in the porn biz. Granted, the mythology of naked women and orgiastic
webmaster parties is hard to ignore. This is a fun job but the partying
is hard because the work is three times harder.
Most adult online professionals works constantly, updating sites,
promoting sites, making new sites, submitting galleries, coding for
security and soliciting link trades with their peers.
All that talk you hear about making thousands of dollars by working two
hours a week is utter bullshit. Anyone who got to a position in this
field where they can let their mailboxes fill up with checks while they
play golf had to work their ass off to get to that point. They had to do
grunt work and research. They had to work hard everyday just like you
will.
In fact, I don't really know of a successful paysite owner or content
provider or adult host that doesn't work as hard if not harder than the
average Joe gallery builder.
If you have your eye on the prize and have not added the tremendous
amount of work you'll have to do into the equation, you are dreaming.
You may like porn and you may like money but the two without effort add
up to a hard drive full of smutty images and no checks in the mailbox.
You have to work to achieve your dreams and most importantly, you have
to love the work.
