They honestly believe that if you wish it, it will be so. They want to open their site and wait for the money.

Let them wait. Let them wait while the officers of industry pass them by.

I have told you that there is still room in this business to get ahead and make a good living. The part of that statement that I want you to pay attention to is "there is still room". At this time, you can take a unique idea for an adult site and build it to a mega company. At this time, there are undiscovered niches that have not yet been tapped. At this time, there are still a few slackers who are getting their first computers and logging on the net to search for smut everyday. At this time, online porn is mostly undiscovered territory.

This time will not last. The room is running out for the top of the heap. The bottom has always been flooded and the middle is savagely protected by its dwellers. Surely you've seen more than one of your favorite non-adult sites get taken over by a larger web fish in a corporate buyout. Will this happen in adult online businesses? I hope not to the extent it does in non-adult world, but it does happen. The top level of the biz is rich and loaded with lawyers. Eventually, they could undercut the prices so that middle-level boys go out of business and all that's left is the chum of the bottom level as virtual pornographic Amway salesmen. I pray that day never comes, but if it does, will you have anything to show for it?

The time to make an adult website for profit is now. Now is when you can learn for free. Now is when you can have a site for free. Now is when you can promote for free. This is the time to think differently and take the chances on budding technology such as WAP sites for PDAs and wireless devices. Eventually, for the Internet generation, the majority of them will have broadband connections. They are going to want that streaming entertainment your dial-up customers simply cannot download. What if someday, there are Internet Networks that deem who can and cannot stream video and games from their website without proper licensing and fees? Could you be one of those foresighted adult Internet pioneers who laid out the architecture for a porn Network?

Look at Hollywood. Look at television. Look at the print medium. These were all unknown frontiers that were formed by the people who dug their heels in and never gave up. All these mediums were considered novelties and fads in their beginnings. The ones who saw the vision set up the rules of their respective industries and now, if you don't play, you don't get paid. There's lawyers and consultants and agents and unions and so much red tape that by the time one of their products of entertainment actually get presented to the public, it's so homogenized and safe, it's lucky if it makes any profit at all.

The adult Internet may not ever get to be as much of a members-only club as those other industries, but given the track record of capitalist society, it probably will. Remember that a lot of big computer boys want to make comps as easy to use as your voice. They want their gadgets to be effort free. Joe Schmoe wants his computer to be idiot proof too. AOL isn't the biggest Internet service because they have wonderful service. There will come a day when knowing how do program a PC will not be a necessary evil of ownership and operation. All those bottom feeders who grow up to hack and stir up the waters (and keep the rest of us in line) may disappear. Knowing how to rename a file may become a thing of the past and your skills will become very very valuable.

I feel for the newbies that heard the bullshit from old warhounds about the fame and riches of Internet porn. It's hard to look from the ranks and know that you could be leading the troops. It's a mixed message, I know. You can't get rich quick in this business, but if you don't join this army now, you won't get anything. Such is the nature of forces in motion.
