Newbies: Where Do You Begin?
Written By Titmowse
I was looking through past articles I've written for the Academy and I
noticed I may have left out the answer to an adult newbie professional's
first question: Where do I start? Where in this field do I begin my
study or effort or invest my money? Where is the first place I need to
go?
Well, I've always found the best place to start is from where you are.
There's a road to success in Internet porn and everyone's got to walk
it. If you know absolutely nothing about making webpages, your trip is
going to take longer than an experienced webmaster. If you know little
about running a business, then you'll be trekking farther than someone
who knows a lot. Where you start from depends on where you've been. If
you know how to make webpages, code form scripts, upload sites and
understand the concept of applying affiliate banners to a free porn
page, then you are where I started when I took on this business.
I knew HTML. I knew about META TAGS and keywords and search engine
submitting. I knew about promotion. I had a non-adult site that got me
my Hotwired Geek of the Week t-shirt to prove it. I had a cool job
teaching computer and Internet skills to students. I thought I knew it
all except how to make money working in the medium I love, the Internet.
I turned to porn because I like it and because it made Internet money. I
could see as others did that porn sold well from the safety of
cyberspace. I knew that if I wanted to be where the virtual action was,
I had to take the porn road. That's where I started and I remember I
thought I knew so damned much.
That was almost four years ago. I have been working, learning, learning,
asking, working and networking ever since. I only hit my stride of
security in this business six months ago and was able to celebrate the
festival of the quitting-of-the-day-job. I found my niche by working
within this industry writing articles where I pretend I know what I'm
talking about. I got here by doing the same things we all had to do. I
built sites. I got sponsors, counters, begrudgingly began submitting
galleries, shot my own content, traded links with webmasters and
networked in message boards. Along the way, I came to understand what
only experience could show me: how the business of Internet porn works.
I know that money is being made in Internet porn. I know that Internet
commerce is like no other marketplace in existence. I know that even if
you know about making sites for the web, you still have a journey ahead
trying to find the avenue of smut selling mastery. I know enough to tell
you that the only first step you can take is from where you are.
If you found this article, then I have to assume you know how to find
information on building adult websites. You may be way ahead of others
who aren't aware there are free places that teach adult webmasters the
skills they need to know. If you are here, you know about Adult
webmaster resource sites. You have only to read through them to get
unheard of amounts of free tips, tools and links to every possible
question. If you don't know how to build a webpage, you can read one of
the many tutorials on the language of webpages, HTML. If you want to
make money, you can scan reviews of sponsor programs to help your
choice. If you need to find hosting, you get directed to your choice of
free or pay on a resource site. If you want to meet webmasters and
fellow newbies you can usually find some at the message boards or chat
rooms on an adult resource page.
How can I tell you to start with a free site and some galleries on a
free-hosted page with a niche sponsor when you may not even know what
the hell those terms mean? If you want to know where to start, it's
always best to begin from where you are and where you are is exactly the
right place to be. You are reading an article on the first free Adult
Webmaster School from one of the best Adult Webmaster resource sites on
the Internet: Cozy Frog.
